AI Automation Cost in Indonesia: What to Expect for SMEs vs Enterprise
Real numbers on what AI automation costs in Indonesia in 2026 — for SMEs and enterprises, with the line items that actually matter.
- bottom
The price quotes for AI automation in Indonesia range from “Rp 5 juta total” to “Rp 800 juta and a six-month engagement”. Both are sometimes correct. The right answer depends on what you’re actually buying — and what’s hidden inside the headline number.
Here are the honest ranges, what they include, and what should make you walk away.
Three honest brackets
Tactical — Rp 8–30 juta per workflow
A single, narrow AI automation. WhatsApp order parsing, invoice line extraction, email triage. 2–6 weeks to ship. One workflow, one integration point.
Most SMEs should start here. Pick the one workflow that’s clearly painful, ship it, see whether AI actually fits your operation, then expand.
Operational — Rp 30–150 juta per project
Multiple connected AI workflows, or one workflow that touches multiple systems. Example: customer message triage that routes to different teams, generates suggested replies, and updates the CRM with conversation summaries. 6–12 weeks.
This is where most SME projects land once they’re past the first pilot.
Enterprise / strategic — Rp 200 juta–1 miliar+
System-wide AI integration. Multiple departments, custom models or fine-tuning, ongoing optimisation. Examples: AI-driven demand forecasting connected to procurement, customer service AI with company-specific knowledge bases, document-heavy compliance workflows. 4–9 months.
Worth doing only if you have real volume to justify it.
What you’re actually paying for
The line items that should be on every quote:
- Discovery and use-case definition (10–15%). Identifying which workflows are actually AI-suitable. Skipping this leads to expensive wrong builds.
- Integration with your existing systems (30–40%). Often the biggest line. AI that doesn’t connect to your accounting / WhatsApp / e-commerce stack isn’t useful.
- Prompt engineering and model setup (15–20%). Tuning the AI to your specific domain, building safety guardrails, defining outputs.
- Testing on your real data (10–15%). Critical and often skipped. AI that works on demo data fails on the messy reality of your business.
- Deployment and monitoring (10–15%). Production setup, error tracking, audit logs.
- Documentation and handover (5%). So you’re not locked into the vendor.
Quotes that don’t break these out are usually hiding something — either they don’t know what’s involved, or they’re absorbing risk into the headline number that should be discussed openly.
Ongoing costs (often forgotten)
Monthly costs for a running AI automation in Indonesia in 2026:
- AI API usage: Rp 200rb–5 juta/month for SME-scale workflows (1–10 million tokens). Bigger enterprises with high volume can hit Rp 20–80 juta/month.
- Hosting and infrastructure: Rp 500rb–3 juta/month, more for self-hosted models.
- Maintenance and tuning: 10–20% of build cost annually. Less and the system rots; more is usually overpriced.
- Monitoring and incident response: Either part of an ongoing retainer or done in-house. Don’t skip this — AI quality drifts over time and you need someone watching.
Where SME costs differ from enterprise
The price gap between SME and enterprise AI automation isn’t proportional to size. A Rp 50 juta SME project and a Rp 500 juta enterprise project differ in:
- Compliance overhead. Enterprises need audit trails, role-based access, formal change management. SMEs usually don’t.
- Integration depth. Enterprises are integrating into ERP, complex workflows, multi-system data flows. SMEs typically have 2–3 systems to touch.
- Scale of testing. Enterprise tests run for weeks across thousands of edge cases. SMEs test for days across dozens.
- Vendor formality. Enterprise SOWs, enterprise contracts, enterprise procurement processes. None of which SMEs benefit from paying for.
If you’re an SME being quoted at enterprise prices, that’s a sign the vendor sells to enterprise mostly and is treating you like one. Find someone who actually serves SME-scale work.
What should make you walk away
Three red flags:
- A flat per-month price with no defined scope. “Rp 25 juta/month for AI” without specific deliverables is a billing arrangement, not a project.
- No testing on your real data before signoff. Demos on synthetic data are easy. The painful surprises live in your actual messy inputs.
- No exit plan. What happens if you stop paying? If the answer is “we lose access to everything”, you’re trapped.
How to scope without committing too early
Two patterns we recommend:
- Paid discovery first. Pay Rp 5–15 juta for a 1–2 week scoping engagement that produces a written assessment, recommended workflows, and an itemised quote. Then decide if you want to proceed. This protects both sides.
- Pilot one workflow before full commitment. Don’t sign a 6-month enterprise engagement on faith. Ship one workflow, see if AI actually fits your business, then expand the scope.
If you’re trying to figure out which bracket your project should land in, an hour of conversation usually clarifies it. We do those at no cost — and if AI isn’t the right answer for your specific bottleneck, we’ll say so.
